Halladay the classiest of them all
Toronto Blue Jays | Tuesday 22 December 2009 by Richard BlayneyPeople have a certain conception of the mega rich sports stars we all love to go and see watch. The conception tends to be that they are overpaid, arrogant and in it for the money as much as they are the glory and that loyalty in sport is something of the past. But Roy Halladay has displaced all those theories, except maybe for the glory, though there is nothing wrong with that. He was loyal for fifteen great years, even when the team were far from great and he went to Philadelphia to win – not for the money because he likely would have got offered more to stay in Toronto. Then today Halladay took out a full page advert in the Toronto Star and penned a letter to say thank you to the Blue Jays fans for the memories.
The move might well be the classiest thing I’ve ever seen from a sporting star and further shows what a legend he indeed is, what high regard he is held in Toronto and why he will get a superb reception when he returns to the city to play against us for Philadelphia.

My wife Brandy, sons Braden and Ryan, and I would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Toronto Blue Jays organization, its incredible fans, and the city of Toronto.
I feel blessed to have been part of the Blue Jays since 1995 and am extremely thankful for the opportunities it has provided. Throughout the past 15 years, there have been so many people within the organization that have made a wonderful and significant impact in my life, it would be impossible to name them all.
I am sincerely grateful for the incredible support and compassion the Blue Jays fans have shown me. I am in awe of your overwhelming passion and devotion.
Toronto will forever have a special place in my heart.
The memories will last a lifetime and so will my gratitude.
Best Regards,
Roy
