Jays crush Tigers in wild home-opener

12-5. Not a bad start to the season for a team many predicted would struggle. Of course the victory doesn’t really mean too much, even a struggling team will win a lot of games over the course of a season, but you can only be as good as your last game and so the Jays gave their fans something to be optimistic about after that fine victory. The bats were on, Halladay won, the beer was cold, the stadium jammed (48,027 to be exact), the fans a little over the top at times and snow was falling outside. Yep, it’s Spring time in Toronto!

Baseball season is underway

2009 Toronto Blue Jays | Monday 6 April 2009 by Richard Blayney

The boys of summer are here, spring training is done and the teams have left their respective bases in the hot states to return to their stadiums in anticipation of another MLB season. The team I support, the Toronto Blue Jays, get their season underway tonight at home against the Detroit Tigers and I’ll be in the stadium. The game is close to a sell-out but I am hoping to head down and pick up a last minute ticket.

There has been a lot written about what you can expect from the Jays this season but it is almost time for the pre-season talk to stop and for the briefest of moments, regardless of potential or expectations, before a bat is swung in anger — anything is possible.
